Radiation in Everyday Life Training

Interested members of the public are invited to attend a presentation on “Radiation in Every Day Life” at a meeting of the Burlington Volunteer Reserve Corps (BVRC) on Wednesday, July 29th at 6pm. Jennifer O’Riorden, Physicist and Radiation Safety Officer at Lahey Medical Center, will be speaking on radiation safety. Participants will receive a broad overview of what radiation is, where it is found and how is it used in everyday life (e.g. medical, industrial, etc.). There will be a discussion of what can go wrong with radiation, how radiation is portrayed in the media and how this can affect public opinion.
Ms. O’Riorden studied Physics at Suffolk University and is currently a graduate student in the Healthcare Emergency Management Program at Boston University Medical School. Prior to working at Lahey Medical Center, Ms. O’Riorden worked in health physics and radiation safety at several major Boston Research Hospitals. She also teaches Radiation Biology and Catastrophe Management at Suffolk University and. volunteers as a ROSS (Radiological Operations Support Specialist) with the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
