What is Crisis and Emergency Risk Communication (CERC)?
Crisis and Emergency Risk Communication is a framework developed by the CDC that provides guidelines for communicating effectively during major emergencies to ensure the public receives timely, accurate information. It focuses on helping organizations convey critical messages that enable people to make informed decisions and take protective actions during crises.
What CERC work has the Coalition done in the past?
In 2023, Region 4AB developed a CERC template that identified communication protocols and procedures to be followed in the event of a crisis or emergency with public health consequences. This plan also included sections on roles and responsibilities and message development. Three years later, we returned to this project and developed a more robust plan that included additional information on message development, misinformation, and rumor management. The new plan also includes sections on incident management, call center considerations, and recovery considerations.
